Inner Mongolia Day Two: Riding The Beast With Two Humps| 2 min read

We awoke very early in Baotou to head to the desert. This proved to be all worth it as we were there in just over an hour. Looking at it was really strange, turning off a major highway and there it was, miles and miles of Mongolian desert.

Here we were at the Yinken River Sand Gulf. The ticket was easy enough, all inclusive to ride a camel, head to a theatre and see some Mongolian performances, ride around in a sand surfing tank and arrive back at the ‘base’. The less sensible would opt to simply jump around in the miles of desert and get slightly lost.

The Mongolian camels obedience saw them wandering off in single file to their slow and meandering pace. Our intrepid explorers rode off into the distance on their trusty steeds through the ups and downs of the dunes. The desert is a great place for general messing around and all of us took full advantage of that!

Photos were taken all over the place and we reconvened to shoot down the massive sand slide to the dunes basin and scale the other side to get a very well deserved lunch at the other side. Word of warning, ribs at the buffet disappear very fast if you go yourselves so do try to keep your eyes open for the new arrival.

We journeyed onto the obligatory stop at a ‘factory’ on the way back before arriving back in Hohhot, it felt nothing like just one day since we were first there! After enjoying more food, we checked into the hotel and planned to go out for a few ‘jiu’s’ to finish off a very successful day.
