Teach & Travel China Overview

Teach & Travel China combines a 120 hour online TEFL certification, 2 weeks training and orientation in China, and a 4.5-month teaching placement in a Chinese school.

Online TEFL certification

Participants will complete a 120 hour online TEFL certification hosted by ImmerQi prior to their arrival in China. This course will guide participants through the key learning stages of becoming a competent, confident teacher, and is suitable for complete beginners.

The course is certified by the ODLQC (Open Distance Learning Quality Control Council) and recognised globally, providing the means to obtain teaching jobs around the world. More information on the course.

In country TEFL training

Program participants will initially arrive into Beijing for a 2 night stay, spending day 2 on a tour to the Great Wall of China and finishing with a welcome meal, before taking the high speed train to Harbin for the remaining 11 nights.

The training in Harbin includes a comprehensive orientation on China, 20 hours face-to-face TEFL training to equip you with the skills required to complete your teaching internship and supervised teaching practice with our TEFL trainers.

Accommodation, meals, Mandarin lessons and cultural activities are also included during the training period.

Teach for a semester

After your TEFL training and orientation, you will be placed as a teaching intern in one of our partner schools across China for a semester. Interns will spend up to 35 hours per week at the school, which includes face-to-face teaching, preparing lessons, meetings, and activities.

Accommodation, meals, Mandarin lessons and a monthly stipend are provided which will come in handy for planning trips on weekends and holidays!

Meet the Team

Matt Piechocki, Program Manager

Matt is from Ohio, USA and first came to China in 2013 to undertake ImmerQi’s Teach & Travel China Program. He holds a Bachelor of Film Studies and is a qualified TEFL teacher, he previously taught kindergarten and primary school in Guangdong and Taiwan. He resides in Beijing and has a big interest in anything film related and speaks intermediate level Mandarin.

Ben Bray, Program Coordinator

Ben came to China in 2013 and taught in Sichuan through ImmerQi’s Teach & Travel China Program and holds a TEFL. He is from Accrington UK and is a huge rugby fan and plays for the Beijing Ardvark rugby team on weekends. He holds a Bachelor of History and lived in NZ and Australia for working holidays. His favourite food is hotdogs (a weekly staple for him in Beijing), is a heavy metal fan and plays the drums!

Alicia Oliver, Program Coordinator

Alicia is from Staffordshire, UK and resides in Beijing. She first came to China in 2016 to undertake ImmerQi’s Teaching Internship Program where she taught kindergarten and Middle school children in Beijing, she holds a TEFL. Alicia is a keen traveller and started travelling at the age of 18, she has lived in NZ for two years, Australia for 6 months and also travelled Bali. Alicia loves socialising, fitness and is a foodie and in particular loves spicy Chinese food.
