Graphic Design Intern: Wonder-jing!| 3 min read
I have been looking for a great opportunity in many countries and I thought it would be a great experience to mix my european background and personality with asian culture and that is why I have been in touch with many agencies which provide internships in China. After different interviewes with different agencies, I decided to sign up for ImmerQi which looked like an agency that can help me to fulfill my needs and it was the best choice I have made!
When I arrived in China, I soon felt the strong difference such as cultural impact, this huge city with so many people speaking a different language to me, I often got lost without the possibility of asking any information as it is not that easy find someone who can speak english around here. However, thanks to Immerqi staff and interns, I quickly felt like home and before the first week ended I was already in love with Beijing.
But let’s talk about the reason I came here, my internship. I’m currently working for a small independent studio where I have found the best working environment I could have ever asked for. What we do basically is about turning around brand identity and visual communication. My art director Ronald was born in Hong Kong and grew up in Canada and that gave him, consequently to the studio, a really open mind and international vision.
I appreciate this job very much and I am thankful for this experience for what it is giving to me, improving a lot my skills. Thanks to my internship I had the opportunity of working with more creatives people from all over the world , such us photographers, fashion designers, stylists, video maker and editor, and of course graphic designers.
I also have meetings with clients and suppliers which allow me to get better into the brief and be able to satisfy their needs. Participating in a project through all the process is really important and it allows me to be aware of how things work and to learn how to manage different gearwheels.
I feel like this experience will help me a lot with my career life and I am really happy about ImmerQi for providing me this great internship with a company that fits me perfectly.
China is also a great country to discover – people, culture, architecture are amazing. I went to celebrate the Chinese New Year to Guilin with some other intern friends. I easily saw the difference of being outside the massive Beijing, places are less westernized and people are more genuine. I have been to the parts of real China and that made me love China even more.
The natural beauty of Guilin looks nothing like the Beijing skyline!
I can only say that I would make this experience again and again and I recommend to everyone to enjoy this exciting country which made me feel like Alice in Wonderjing!
