Easter & Tomb Sweeping Day In China| 2 min read

As a foreigner in China, you get to celebrate both Chinese and Western festivals. It is interesting that in the two so different culture, they still have something in common. Take Easter and Tomb Sweeping Day for example, they are quite like each other actually.

Lately, you can see everywhere is covered with abundant colors in Beijing, flowers are in blossom and trees are with green sprouts. You just feel joyful all the time walking down the street on a nice blue day.

Yes, spring is here and amazingly beautiful.

I wonder if you know that Easter is coming so is Tomb Sweeping Day. Both festivals have two main purposes:

Easter:
To commemorate Jesus Christ and celebrate spring

Tomb Sweeping Day:
To commemorate the ancestors and celebrate spring

See the similarity now? Yes, both festivals celebrate the good time of spring. There’s a good old Chinese saying “一年之计始于春 (Yī nián zhī jì shǐ yú chūn)”. It says the best time of a year is spring. However, even in this part, the two cultures have differences, too.

Find out more information about Tomb Sweeping Day.
Tomb Sweeping Day, also known as Qingming Festival, is a traditional Chinese festival on the first day of the fifth solar term on lunar calendar.
Literally the name of this festival means “Pure Brightness Festival”. It suggests a time for people to go outside and enjoy the greenery of springtime but it is mostly noted for it connections with Chinese ancestral veneration and the tending of family graves. In Mainland China, the holiday is associated with the consumption of qingtuan, green dumplings made of glutinous rice and barley grass.
Any travel plan for the upcoming holiday? Remember this Chinese national holiday starts from April 4th till 6th! Go out and enjoy the green with your friends!
