What Are You Doing Next Summer?| 3 min read

Next summer plans

The summer holidays are something that we all look forward to; it’s great to have a long, well-earned break; but many of us find ourselves falling into rather dull routines of boredom, when instead we could be doing something really worthwhile. Why spend such precious time on the couch at home when you could be out exploring the world and meeting countless new people?

Summer internship and volunteer programs are becoming increasingly more popular as the new generations realize how many opportunities there are to travel the globe; it’s never too early to start planning next summer’s adventure.

Experiences that were previously out of reach are now obtainable by anyone who has a passion for travel and adventure. Countries, like China, that are opening their doors to more and more foreigners, are excellent locations to spend a couple of months in the summer learning a new language, exploring a new landscape, developing personal skills and gaining international experience that will look really good on your CV.

Summer programs abroad are the perfect way to fill an otherwise uneventful part of the year. Whether you are between your 2nd and 3rd year of university, a recent graduate or even in a full time job, a 4-12 week summer program could be exactly what you need to sample the variety of the world and gain a new perspective on life. With so many options available, you could take almost any interest you have and find a program abroad relevant to it.

We all consider and execute travel plans for different reasons. Some of us simply enjoy the thrill of being engulfed in a strange and new environment; others do so mainly because they want to improve their employability. Whatever the reason, there is something we all have in common: we have a deep passion for exploration and learning that can only be satisfied by travel. There are thousands of opportunities available to people from all walks of life, all it takes is a little research, determination and sometimes, a little spontaneity.

China has been hitting the business and education headlines more and more frequently in recent years as its economy continues to grow faster than any other. More people are realising the potential rewards that come from living, working or studying in China, a country that is predicted to overtake the US economically before the turn of the decade. Not only is China a great place to be for business, but its culturally rich heritage and landscape is one that should be experienced first hand.

The internet has an abundance of resources that we can all take advantage of when considering a summer abroad program. Reading about other peoples’ experiences, picking up a few pieces of the lingo and doing some research into culture not only gets the heart pounding, but also educates us on the world outside of our own.

This website informs us of the links between volunteering and employability – a resume with “I spent 4 months volunteering in China” is really going to stand out! Another article talks us through 6 ways in which volunteering abroad can boost your career.

ImmerQi’s programs operate in China, so why not take a look at what we have on offer and begin planning your summer adventure.

Do something amazing next summer and be the envy of all of your friends. Try and think of your perfect trip abroad, whether it entails volunteering, language learning, working or simply exploration, and there will be someone out there who can help you acheive your travel dreams. There’s so much more to life than what’s in our backgardens…
