Tremendous Teachers!| 2 min read

Placement School

Sunday morning at 7am (there are no lie ins for our interns!) we gathered the interns to depart for their first day of teaching practice. 3 weeks of theory work and studying had accumulated in a lot of nervous and excited looking faces as we arrived at the middle school ready for the interns to meet the students they would be teaching over the next week.

Arriving ahead of schedule the interns gathered all their lesson plans and made any last minute preparations (including many flags being drawn!) before the long anticipated walk into a classroom! Placed in groups of 4, the interns had 30 minutes of teaching time each, the longest 30 minutes of their lives or so they thought! As soon as they had all the students smiling and saying “Hello teacher!!” all their anxieties went away and the time flew by!

By the end of first period the interns had nothing to worry about, chatting intensely as they helped each other with comments and suggestions, learning and teaching together.  Walking into the classroom for the second period with much more confidence the interns again found their stride and were teaching the students all about their different nationalities (this is where the flags come in!).

No sooner had the second period begun that the bell rang out and it was time to go back to their own classrooms for their feedback and to share their observations. The bus back was filled with interns chatting with an equal mixture of relief, at having got the first class out of the way, and anticipation at what they would teach the next day!
